Maryland women’s lacrosse’s added depth pays off in first game

After a dominant first half, Maryland women’s lacrosse was struggling to find its footing in the third quarter. A duo of yellow cards and a reinvigorated St. Joseph’s squad prevented the Terps from scoring in the first half of the quarter.

It was freshman midfielder Jordyn Lipkin who ended the scoring drought. In a free position attempt she charged the goal and scored her first college goal. Lipkin went on to score again in the fourth quarter.

Aurora Cordingley dashed out from behind St. Joseph’s goal and whipped the ball into the upper corner for her first goal as a Terp. The Johns Hopkins transfer would go on to score four of her five goals the same way, becoming a hazard to the Hawks’ defense all afternoon long.

After an unfortunate 2021 season, Maryland women’s lacrosse looks for a comeback

The 2021 season didn’t go Maryland women’s lacrosse’s way. It lost seven games in its competitive schedule, the most losses the team has had since 2006. The Terps also broke an 11-year streak of Final Four appearances in the NCAA tournament.

This year, No. 9 Maryland is hungry for more.

For the first time since 2019, the Terps will have a full season. They’ll play 16 games in the regular season, 10 against fellow ranked teams.

Maryland baseball gets a first look at new squad with back-to-back scrimmages against Virginia

Maryland baseball returned home to Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium on Saturday, hosting Virginia in a weekend doubleheader in College Park.

The Terps, who suffered a disappointing early finish in the postseason tournament last season, tied the Cavaliers in both scrimmages to turn the corner on a fresh season.

“I liked the mentality, they didn’t quit, they came back in both games and that’s got to be a staple of who we are,” Maryland head coach Rob Vaughn said.
